316L Stainless Steel Sheet & Coil
Molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless, low carbon
316L is 304 with 2–3 % molybdenum and a carbon ceiling of 0.03 %. The molybdenum is what resists chlorides and salt spray; the low carbon is what keeps welds from sensitising. It is the grade you specify for coastal installations, chemical plant, desalination and pharmaceutical work, and the one buyers ask for by name when 304 has failed in service.
