HRB400E Rebar (Seismic Grade)

Hot-rolled ribbed reinforcing bar to GB/T 1499.2

HRB400E Rebar (Seismic Grade)

HRB400E is the seismic grade of Chinese rebar: 400 MPa minimum yield, 540 MPa minimum tensile, and an elongation-after-fracture requirement of 9 % that the plain HRB400 does not have. The ‘E’ suffix is what your engineer is looking for on a project in a seismic zone, and it is the grade most often specified on Latin American, African and Middle Eastern tenders that follow Chinese design.

  • Reinforced concrete structures in seismic zones
  • Foundations, columns and slabs
  • Bridges, culverts and retaining walls
  • Industrial floors and precast elements
  • Infrastructure tenders with Chinese design codes

How to choose

Specify HRB400E rather than HRB400 whenever the structure is in a seismic zone — the cost difference is small and the ductility requirement is the reason the grade exists. HRB500 is used where strength, not ductility, drives the design.

FAQ

What does the E in HRB400E mean?
It marks the seismic grade. Against HRB400, GB/T 1499.2 raises the elongation-after-fracture requirement to 9 % and requires a tensile-to-yield ratio of at least 1.25, so the bar yields visibly before it fails.
Do you supply rebar in cut lengths or coils?
Both: 6, 9 and 12 m straight bundles, or coiled rebar for smaller diameters. Diameters 6–50 mm.
